Why have an espresso bar in a company?
Coffee: a daily reflex at work
Coffee at work has been part of the daily routine for workers for over a century, with Barcalounger in the United States being the first company to introduce the "coffee break" in 1902. Although several companies have since tried to eliminate the coffee break, employees worldwide have quickly embraced the culture of coffee at work: they no longer simply drink coffee at work, they work while drinking coffee.
In recent years, the way we drink coffee during work hours has changed. With the rise of remote work, the increase in freelancers, and the massive influx of coffee shops in cities worldwide, it's now common to find a sea of laptops in cafes. This has naturally inspired major corporations, which have decided to introduce espresso bars into their offices.
The espresso bar as a place for meeting and exchanging ideas

Indeed, these initiatives offer several advantages. Firstly, they provide employees with a relaxation area within their workplace, while temporarily removing them from their usual workspace. Secondly, they allow employees to meet more informally. This fosters new conversations, stimulates creativity, and helps build relationships between employees who might not otherwise have crossed paths. Finally, it often demonstrates that the company is particularly interested in employee well-being, which tends to lead to greater loyalty.
LinkedIn was one of the first companies to install an espresso bar in its offices. It was a resounding success, and the results speak for themselves. For them, the arrival of the espresso bar was crucial in creating a meeting space where employees could interact more naturally, without the pressure of the typical office environment.
For our part, we were able to see the positive effects of our espresso bars at Ubisoft and Radio-Canada right from the start. In addition to developing new knowledge about their daily beverage, employees can relax between tasks and chat with each other, whether about work or not!
