How to choose the right coffee?
It can seem difficult to determine which coffee best suits our tastes and the type of brewing we use in our morning ritual. Here's a short guide that will almost certainly help you find the one that gives you the perfect cup!
The origin of coffee
First, you need to choose the general flavor profile of a region that best matches your preferences. Here are a few examples to guide you!
Kenya
Its profile is light, delicate and complex. It has distinctive notes and a beautiful balance between the acidity of the fruit and its sugars.
Ethiopia
With its broad and distinctive profile, Ethiopian coffee enjoys a prestigious reputation. Its aromas range from citrusy and fruity to floral. When brewed naturally, notes of candied and tropical fruits can surprise even the most discerning coffee lover.
Colombia
Colombia boasts a wide range of flavors, from bold and chocolatey to sweet and fruity. Colombian coffees are renowned for their delicate taste, and year after year, the region delivers a consistent and unique flavor profile.
Brazil
Brazil is the world's leading producer and exporter of coffee. Low in acidity and rather full-bodied, Brazilian coffees are known for their diverse profiles and roasted nut aromas.
Costa Rica & Guatemala
Countries rich in expertise, their coffee is of exceptional quality: they have developed their expertise in different preparation methods, such as honeys and natural brews. You can enjoy a wide variety of aromas, whether light, sweet, fruity, or complex, rich, and chocolatey. Every time, they offer a perfectly balanced cup!

Roasting
Several roasting levels are available on the market, but the most common are medium, dark, and dark. Each has distinct characteristics: medium roast, for example, retains more of the terroir's aromas, making it much richer in flavor and truer to its origins. Furthermore, it will more often be acidic and fruity.
Medium-dark coffee, on the other hand, is probably the most balanced of all; you can therefore enjoy a nice balance between acidity, body and bitterness!
Ultimately, dark roast coffee is distinguished by its bitterness and the texture of its beans, which is often oily. You'll detect similar profiles with smoky, roasted, or even burnt aromas.
The grind
The grind size is crucial when choosing your coffee. It will greatly influence the quality of your extraction, so it's essential to choose the right grind depending on the brewing method you're using.
In the case of espresso, for example, an unsuitable grind will prevent you from extracting the coffee optimally. A French press, on the other hand, won't brew a good cup of coffee if the coffee beans are too fine, as they will clog the metal filter. Therefore, a coarse grind is recommended to suit its mechanism.
