Amérique Latine : la Colombie

Latin America: Colombia

General taste profile

The massive production offered by this country results in a wide spectrum of flavors. Their Arabica coffees are renowned for their aromas of ripe tropical fruits, even jams, as well as for their chocolatey, vanilla, caramelized, and rich notes. The fact that coffee is cultivated in many regions of the country, at various altitudes, certainly explains this range of aromas, which makes Colombia one of the most important countries in the market (the FNC, Federación Nacional de Cafeteros, created in 1927, now includes more than 500,000 farms).

Cultural regions

Colombia is bisected by the Andes Mountains (running from north to south) and by the isolated Sierra Nevada mountain range (Santa Marta) in the far north of the country. Coffee therefore thrives in mountainous soils at various altitudes (ranging from 800 to 1900 meters). These mountains create diverse microclimates, accentuating the unique characteristics of each growing region. In total, 8 million acres are dedicated to coffee cultivation, encompassing 564 cities spread across 16 Colombian states.

Typica, Bourbon & Caturra are the best-known varieties in Colombia.

It's entirely up to you to keep your eyes peeled for discoveries… FARO makes it its duty (a real pleasure, to be honest) to unearth the most distinctive coffees. Among our micro-lots, you'll find, among others, Oporapa, with its smooth, sweet, and astringent flavor notes, perfect for espresso, French press, and filter coffee.
